Oakland Museum Field Trip

November 15, 2008

We just took our first field trip of the school year yesterday (Thursday, November 13) to the Oakland Museum. We had a great time listening to a Native American educator and taking a tour of the natural sciences gallery. Check out the pictures tab for a short (but cool) slideshow!

Rot & Landfill Excavations

November 14, 2008

We recently concluded our 4 Rs Action Program by learning about the 4th R – rot – and excavating the landfills we made several weeks ago (scroll down the page to see how we made our landfills)! In the last couple of weeks, we learned about the FBI (ask anyone from Room 14 about what that is!) and how they help us decompose food. We also learned that nothing happens to most of the garbage in the landfills, which is why we want to practice the 4 Rs as much as possible – to keep whatever we can out of the landfills! Enjoy the pictures! (As always, click on the Pictures tab for more.)

Recycle

November 4, 2008

Last Tuesday, October 28, we learned about recycling. Specifically, we conducted an investigation on different types of plastic and we learned that not all plastics can be recycled.  Bummer. =(  We also had a chance to make our own recycled paper in class! We took pieces of scratch paper, water and some food coloring and threw everything in a blender, simulating what happens at a real recycled paper manufacturing company. Enjoy the pictures below and under our pictures tab!
