March 19, 2009

We’ve been learning a lot and doing a lot of experiments on electricity – building our own circuits, lighting up light bulbs, making motors run, and even building electromagnets! Check out more pictures by clicking the pictures tab!

Basket Weaving

March 10, 2009

We recently finished Island of the Blue Dolphins, and just like Karana had to use natural resources for her everyday needs, we decided to try our hand at basket weaving.

Head Royce Buddies

February 22, 2009

Recently, 9th graders from Head Royce School (located just up the street from Sequoia) paid a visit to our classroom. We’ll be working on a project with our new buddies, and though we’ll only meet for 3 times during the year, it should be exciting! We’re all looking forward to the next time they pay a visit in March! In the meantime, here are some pictures from their 1st visit.

Oakland Museum Field Trip

November 15, 2008

We just took our first field trip of the school year yesterday (Thursday, November 13) to the Oakland Museum. We had a great time listening to a Native American educator and taking a tour of the natural sciences gallery. Check out the pictures tab for a short (but cool) slideshow!

Rot & Landfill Excavations

November 14, 2008

We recently concluded our 4 Rs Action Program by learning about the 4th R – rot – and excavating the landfills we made several weeks ago (scroll down the page to see how we made our landfills)! In the last couple of weeks, we learned about the FBI (ask anyone from Room 14 about what that is!) and how they help us decompose food. We also learned that nothing happens to most of the garbage in the landfills, which is why we want to practice the 4 Rs as much as possible – to keep whatever we can out of the landfills! Enjoy the pictures! (As always, click on the Pictures tab for more.)
